The Georgie Effect

Well, I kind of had fun with that post about truth. What I was initially planning on posting about was worms. Last week I went for a walk and I saw a worm on the middle of the sidewalk, and it was wiggling around, all helpless. And, I proved to myself that I do in fact have a soul. And by "a soul," I mean, a heart of compassion.

I thought, "Why is Georgie crawling on the sidewalk on such a dry day? Should warmer weather arrive with the afternoon, he'll dry up like a raisen if he doesn't get a move on!"

So I picked up that little Georgie and put him back in Jenny and Larry's yard. Well, no, it was someone else's yard on their block. And I smiled to myself, full of pride, and walked on my way. But my tale isn't over.

About two sidewalks squares later, I stopped suddenly, wondering...did I put the critter on the right side of the sidewalk? Maybe he was trying to get from the yard to the boulevard for some grande purpose! Maybe I had just done something...eeevvil. The whole course of the world could be changed because of it! Because of the butterfly effect - one little flap of the butterfly's wings in Guam can cause a monsoon in - in - some monsoon-afflicted country. And one little worm at the wrong place at the wrong time could dictate disaster for a nation.

Friends, let us pray that my "heart of compassion" will not turn the world upside-down.

Comments:
Poor Georgie. I hope that little feller is okay.

I think he will be quite happy eating dirt on that side of the sidewalk. And not to over spiritualise the worm, but in Romans 8:28 it says that all things work together for good for those who love God. Take that butterfly effect! So, your worm will not cause a massive earthquake in Cambodia.

Hey, there's nothing more pityful than a poor dried out worm on a side walk...sob, the horror of it! Your act of compassion should be admired for motive and not outcome. But you do bring up an interesting point of what side he might have wanted to be on...you just may have given him a very ill opinion of humans for meddling in his affairs. Perhaps he resents recieving charity from someone stronger than he, and has been grumbling ever since over how he could have made it on his own... dirty water with the sparrows and sun!

If it was that big of a deal he could have just gone under the sidewalk. I try and help as many worms as possible. It usually mkes me happier. Well ok, maybe not happier but I just feel better knowing that fish-food is safer. Seriously . . .

Sweet blog jac-atac I see you got new one or redid your old one or something, well anyways sweet blog, by the way Star Wars rules

Worms are welcome in our yard! We have a little robins nest and I'm sure her little ones get hungry. My heart of compassion just hates to see those little birdies go without a meal!

Thats horrible!

Ahhh...the circle of life!

Aw shucks - worms getting eaten by fish, birds, and Jami. I don't know if I should be indifferent or if I should gather a bucketful tomorrow (as it will likely rain again, no doubt) and pass them around.

JC, if you find a pile of Georgies under your little tree, you can have the bird come thank me.

Little Robbie Robin thanks you. (Her eggs havn't hatched yet)
